If you've seen the TV show HOARDERS on A&E with Matt Paxton you already know how significant a challenge some families face due to compulsive hoarding. Hoarding is so much more than excessively saving clothes, food and junk because you can't seem to part with it. It's a hidden epidemic that results not only in extreme clutter but filthy living conditions. Hoarding usually starts with a traumatic event and continues until the disorder is uncovered by loved ones who want to help. The process of cleaning and healing a hoarding situation is complex due to the psychological nature of the disorder and must be met with compassion and concern void of any judgement. ServiceMaster TBS thanks Matt for his insight.
