When to Use a Flat vs. String Mop

Hard-surface floor maintenance requires the use of a mop. Maintaining hard-surface floors can be done with a flat or string mop. Both options are effective and capable, but each has a specific purpose.

two mop types

When a janitorial service is cleaning a facility with low traffic, a flat mop is the perfect tool for the job. A flat mop is lightweight, efficient and superb at attracting soil and debris to its microfiber material.

When cleaning a floor with higher traffic and/or more soiled surfaces, the string mop is preferred by janitorial services. The heaviness of the woven fibers gives the cleaner a heavier mop and ability to use additional agitation. When the mop becomes too soiled, it may be rinsed in a mop bucket.
