Caring for Hard-Surface Floors

Your hard-surface floors were a significant investment designed to give your business a more professional and aesthetic appearance. In order to protect the quality and longevity of your floor, it is important to follow proper maintenance procedures. If you choose to clean the floors yourself, here are a few helpful tips to ensure your hard-surface floors look attractive and well-maintained:

1. Thoroughly vacuum then remove entrance matting.
2. Sweep or dust mop floor to remove loose dirt and debris.
3. Place “WET FLOOR” signs in work area.
4. Prepare a properly diluted solution of a neutral cleansing agent and warm or hot water in a clean mop bucket. Typically half of the recommended amount of cleaning solution with the same about of water is more effective and will reduce potential streaking of the floor surface.
5. Use a clean mop designed for damp mopping procedures.
6. Wet and wring mop until it is damp (not dripping).
7. Use a “figure eight” motion to clean floor. Be sure to rinse and wring mop frequently.
8. Change mop water frequently as it becomes cloudy with dirt. Never mop floors with dirty mop water or use dirty mops.
9. Allow floor to dry. Using a fan can speed up this process.
10. Replace matting and furniture to original configuration.
11. Add felt pads to the bottom of your furniture to minimize scratching.

NOTE: It’s important to never buff your floor as a loss of gloss may result.
